Martin d28 vs d 18v vintage acoustic guitar
First of all, you just can't put it into words. No one could tell me how amazing this guitar was. Or convince me. You see, I'm a Taylor guy..hands down, love that Taylor sound. But...this...is just simply incredible. I would have not believed that a standard dread nought could boom sound like this, or produce this kind of clarity from highs to lows. But it does. Some of you will ask, is it that much different than the standard Hd-28 or D-28? Absolutely. Completely a different species. This is as close to perfection as you can get for a sound on a guitar. The V neck plays like a dream and is so comfortable. Mine was professionally set up from nut to saddle to frets. After all, if you're gonna spend this kind of change on an instrument, it ought to get the best treatment. I use Elixir lights and they sound great. You can use Mediums but I've seen the tops pull up and Bridges come loose on many through the years. So I'd recommend lights for strings. Also you'll need to bone up in the care and feeding of one of these. These are fine woods put together with glue, so you can't leave this one in the car or store it out in the the garage like you can with the Chinese guitars. If you do, the consequences will be dire.
This is a FINE instrument that looks like a fine instrument, plays like a fine instrument, sounds like a fine instrument and needs care like a fine instrument so watching humidity levels and temperature will be important of she'll be visiting the Luthier often.
Other than that, oh she's fine to play, and wonderful on the ears.
If you buy it....you'll be glad you did!
Happy Picking...
There is absolutely nothing like the sound and feel of a Martin d 28 guitar, a model that has set the standard. Martin guitars have a legendary tone with a big low end and a full tonal spectrum. The Martin hd 28v replicates the key features of a vintage Martin d 28, including a Herringbone D-2 format, open back tuners, a vintage neck style, a pyramid bridge, a volute to reinforce the strength of the neck, forward-shifted and scalloped bracing and classic fretboard inlays. Even the bindings are specially designed to replicate the look of the ivory bindings popular before World War I.''
